"Notion Film" (2005 - in progress)
A project consisting in all the imagery surrounding a film, the "extras" that the
contemporary culture produces to promote the filmic spectacle: posters in
different language versions, filmstills, lobby-cards, trailers, making-offs and
press books. All that exceeds the film, all the surplus-value without the main
part, namely the movie itself. The left-overs of something that never existed.
A structure that functions as a rebus, a sphynx without aenigma that intends
to put into question the relationship between still and moving images,
between photography and film. A problematization of the place of the gaze
that seeks to invert the position of spectator-viewer as a passive receptor
of controlled and established meanings. The mise-en-scène of a riddle to
which the spectator must find new answers every time he looks at it, how
to deal with the fragments he and his memory receive.
